Test & Taging
Every Australian business or PCBU (person conducting a business or undertaking) has a legal duty of care to its employees in ensuring the safety of electrical equipment in the workplace.
As part of this responsibility, all portable electrical appliances should be tested in accordance with the AS/NZS 376:2022.
This standard applies to all portable electrical appliances in-service at a place of work, public place, accommodation place, or equipment offered for hire.
While electricity is a convenience we often overlook, it poses significant risks, including potential fatalities and untold financial losses for businesses and their equipment.
The frequency of testing varies on industry. Demolition, mining and construction businesses must test appliances every three months, while factories, workshops and similar environments every six months. Testing and tagging of electrical equipment in hotels and accommodation-style properties is every 2 years.
